About

Our mission is to help people become and be followers of Christ.

And we have a particular way of doing that. It centers around participatory worship, and is bolstered by prayer, occasions for community, reading, hearing, interpreting and living out scripture, generous giving, and service to others. We are committed to helping each other and helping anyone we can live out being Christ’s follower in this way.

We have 6 values that shape who we are as people of God.

Rooted and Participatory worship – The priority in worship is for the entire gathered community to be able to participate. We certainly strive for excellence and work on finding creative means of worshiping an ever creative God, but we place a higher value on participation and rootedness. We understand rootedness to be about being connected to God through the practice of certain broad traditions of the Church, such as hearing the Bible read out loud, praying for each other, singing and making music, sharing communion together.

Guided by God’s word, not by any person’s agenda. The Preaching at Trinity is not moralistic, nor is it meant to simply give us easy answers for common human challenges. We aren’t interested in how-to sessions, or self-help guides. Rather, the preaching is meant to point to the intersection of the Word of God and our lives. It is meant to help us let God set the agenda for our lives rather than us going to God with our laundry list of problems or excuses. It asks what God wants, what God is saying. The preaching at Trinity reminds us that God’s Word cannot be reduced to a sound byte or a slogan. Our engagement with God’s Word isn’t limited to sermons, though. It is meant to be read, heard, interpreted by more than just the minister, and ultimately it is to be lived out.

Prayer – it almost goes without saying. Prayer must be and is central to the life of the Church. It is not just part of the regular worship gathering but is present in every gathering of God’s people, whether a meeting, a study, or a social gathering.

Inclusive Community – We believe that we need each other in our walk with God and that this goes beyond simply being welcoming and friendly. Some will find deep and lasting friendships at Church, while others will find some support in times when they need it. Others will simply have fun working together with others who share common beliefs on a project or in a ministry. Others still will deepen in their knowledge of God or the Bible from the people in the Church. Trinity can’t be everything to everyone, but we believe that God’s Spirit will work through all the people present to bring people together as He intends. This may sound unplanned and different than other churches that have set groups and programs for people to plug into, but this allows individuals to come forward with ideas for connecting with each other or serving together. It allows relationships to develop naturally, instead of trying to program people into having relationships with each other. It trusts that the Spirit is at work among the people, and not just in the organization or the institution.

Generous Giving – We recognize that everything belongs to God and give generously of what God has given us. As a Church 10% of all our regular offerings go directly to one local and one global mission project, but we attempt to go beyond this base of giving, and hope to help people reach their potential in generosity.

Compassionate Service with our gifts and passions – We believe that God’s people ought to do what they are passionate about and what they are gifted to do. We are more interested in opening up ways for people to do what they love and what they have gifts for in serving, than in making sure we have “all the best programs.”
